Natchez, discovered by LaSalle in 1682, and bearing the name of the Great Indian tribe found here, is mellowed in history and tradition. It's past is colored with high adventure, history breathes the essence of its romance and tragedy, as many flags strove for possession of its beautiful and fertile lands. French voyager, English Tory, Spanish Don and the southern planter have crossed the great stage of Natchez and each has left the color of his drama in the architecture of the shrine of a past civilization.
