Toward Seaford by Theresa Wells Stifel

$325.00

"Toward Seaford" was my first attempt at this canvas format and I really like how it turned out.

When we moved to coastal Virginia a few years ago the thing my husband commented on constantly was "how wide the view is". It's true, we have a 180 degree view of the York River from our home.
Although you can pretend this is any water view you like!

This is an acrylic work painted entirely with a palette knife. That lavender hue you see is a fair constant here as the clouds change with the wind and the sun rises and sets.

"Toward Seaford" was painted on a sturdy gallery wrapped canvas with painted edges so it can be hung unframed or framed as you desire.

This painting is one that was to be presented as part of the show "Neridas - Daughters of the Sea" for the month of May at Arts on Main in Gloucester , VA. COVID-19 had rendered that unsafe so I am presenting the collection to you here. I hope you enjoy it!

Happily Art on Main Gallery has offered me September as an alternative date and I am working on a different body of work for that show.

This name derives from the Ancient Greek “Niriis (Νηρηΐς) Niriides (Νηρηΐδες)”. The Nereids are sea nymphs (female spirits of sea waters), the fifty daughters of Nereus and Doris, sisters to Nerites. They were distinct from the mermaid-like Sirens. They often accompany Poseidon and can be friendly and helpful to sailors fighting perilous storms. This name is also linked to “Nereus”, from the Ancient Greek “neros (νηρος) Nereus / Niiréas (Νηρεύς / Νηρέας)”, meaning “water, liquid, aquatic”. Nereus was the eldest son of Pontus and Gaia a Titan who with Doris fathered the Nereids, with whom Nereus lived in the Aegean Sea. The largest Mediterranean underwater sea cave yet found, lying northwest of Sardinia, was named by the discoverers, the Nereo Cave, in honor of this mythological figure. Source: Name Doctor
