Individuals can only make decisions for themselves but when they gather together to affect change - profound things can happen. A sea change can occur. The titles of my collection of resolute women are examples of the traits needed to affect change. Buried within the contemporary mixed media portraits are scraps of ephemera that harken back to a time when women didn't have a voice in public. It's important to absorb the past to illuminate the future.
I generally start out with a color story and begin with painting an abstract painting as the first layer. Then vintage and antique ephemera is collaged on and within the paint.
Only then do I begin my figure work. Some women are inspired by people I know, most come out of my imagination inspired by someone’s turn of the head or defiant gaze as I pass them on the street.

She measures 24x48x1 inches. The canvas is gallery wrapped and the sides are painted so you can frame the piece or not as you desire.
